Half of the KR women are in Banff, Alberta, for Banff BikeFest this week. Tricia, Christine and Amy arrived in the gorgeous Canadian National Park under low clouds and drizzle on Wednesday. The 1.5K hill-climb prologue kicked things off on Thursday with a field of 40 girls including some heavy hitters on their way to Canadian Nationals. It is amazing how much pain you can experience in 3 minutes and 30 seconds. It was also impressive that we could lose almost 30 seconds to Tara Whitten in such a short period of time, but that we did. Amy pulled off 7th, Tricia, 12th and Christine, 27th. The next morning, we woke to dry roads and high clouds. We were surrounded by amazing mountains in Canmore. Banff is a fantastic location for a bike race. Friday’s 52 mi road race was based in Lake Louise. Amy had a great race putting the hurt on the field, including her teammates, with some great attacks. Amy’s aggressive riding got her a 4th place in the road race. Christine also had a great race covering TR’s late attacks enabling Amy and Tricia to position for the finish. Tomorrow we have the time trial and the criterium. We are looking forward to a great day. You can also follow results and race reports on the websites for Canadian Cyclist and Pedal Magazine.
